Wally Home

Headquartered in Seattle, SNUPI Technologies is using the latest advancements in sensor and low-energy technology to revolutionize the way people monitor the health of their homes. Their first consumer product, Wally, is a discreet sensor system that detects and alerts homeowners via their mobile device to water leaks and changes in temperature and humidity. The sensors boast many remarkable features, like their ability to last 10 years on the same battery.

Instead of using traditional Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connections, Wally uses the copper wiring in the walls of a home as an antenna—hence the name Wall–y. Character was tasked with developing a unique identity for Wally, which Character would then extend across all consumer touch points from website, mobile app, retail packaging and event fixtures.

“An innovative technology that gives the home something it’s never had—a voice.”

Rishi Shourie  / Creative Director

The new Wally identity needed to establish a sense of trust and warmth. Consumers needed to feel assured that this is a product that they could rely on to protect their homes. Although Wally is an innovative technology company, Character looked at Wally through a lifestyle lens. Consumers should find it easy to visualize themselves using the product and integrating it into their lives at home.

The selected identity is a custom logotype which extends the two ‘L’s in Wally, a subtle yet playful representation of the way the sensors use the copper wiring in walls to communicate with the Sensor Hub.

The color palette and photography art direction is warm and friendly, reinforcing the approachable and humanistic attributes of the brand. In addition, Character developed a comprehensive suite of icons for the website and mobile experience.

Once all of the brand visual elements were defined, Character extended the design language across all consumer touch points, from retail packaging (structure and design), website (UX and visual design), to mobile app (UX and visual design) and  to Wally’s event booth (structure and design).
